Description

Subject Matter:

This print is part of a portfolio made in collaboration with Experiments in Art and Technology (EAT) and Moderna Museet as a fundraising effort for artists. Andy Warhol, the face of the pop art movement, was known for his repetitious use of icons like Marilyn Monroe, Mao, Elvis, Elizabeth Taylor etc. This print was created through sequential xeroxing. Warhol took his initial drawing of Mao and photocopied it, and then each successive printing he xeroxed the last print he had completed. Thus each sucessive print diverges farther and farther from the original drawing Warhol made. This print is hardly recognizable, the only remnant that is visible is Mao's collar. The process of creation is more visible than the actual product.
