Description

Subject Matter:

Saito Kiyoshi was a 20th-century Sosaku-hanga artist, a movement that emphasized self-expression and the individual creation of prints. He issued his first prints in the now-famous "Winter in Aizu" series. This series was based on his hometown in Fukushima prefecture.

Physical Description:

This woodblock print depicts three people walking through a snow-covered street. The buildings that surround them are also covered in snow. The two people in the foreground hold hands and the one on the right is much smaller. There is a person further along the path who walks alone. There is a red seal in the bottom right with a horizontal signature underneath it.
