Saito Kiyoshi was a 20th-century Sosaku-hanga artist, a movement that emphasized self-expression and the individual creation of prints. He issued his first prints in the now-famous "Winter in Aizu" series. This series was based on his hometown in Fukushima prefecture.
Physical Description:
This woodblock print depicts a path through a valley covered in snow. In the foreground at the beginning of the passage are trees and plants. In the open space are people walking on the path and a small shack off to the left. Beyond it is more trees and mountains. There is a red seal in the bottom left area with a signature underneath.
