Description

A landscape painter who worked in Utrecht, Lisbon, and London, Stoop is known for his military subjects, hunting scenes, and seaports. Among his most famous series of prints, however, is one entitled "Various Horses," which shows the different contexts in which horses functioned. The set exemplifies the seventeenth-century Dutch fascination with an encyclopedic cataloguing of the natural world.
