Description

Subject Matter:

One of 12 photographs that comprise a portfolio entitled "Bodie," this image depicts two shingled, wooden buildings—now abandoned—that served as shops during the heyday of the nineteenth-century gold mining town Bodie, California. Tice depicts the buildings frontally, with just a strip of grass and the outline of the sky behind the two structures, and has framed them so that the far right and left edges are cut off. This compositional choice focuses attention on the geometric shapes of the buildings' frames, as well as their surface textures, and further flattens them against the cloudless sky.

Physical Description:

Photograph of the façades of two wooden buildings.
