
YCS Gallery Guide
We are seeking 5-10 YCS high schoolers and/or recent graduates to serve as gallery guides for an upcoming family-centered celebration of Black art, culture & HBCUs on October 5, 2024 at the University of Michigan Museum of Art. Guides will receive training to engage and educate visiting families on a chosen piece of art by a Black artist during the event and the opportunity to learn more about HBCUs.
This opportunity is in connection with Silver Linings: Celebrating the Spelman Art Collection which explores 100+ years of African American art history.
Requirements & Expectations
- Attend 2 scheduled training sessions + Black Art is Divine event on October 5 from 1-4pm.
- Select an artwork (UMMA will provide a list of options), conduct research, prepare a short family-friendly presentation to share with families in the gallery next to the work of art.
- Work with planning team to ensure successful tour experience for families in attendance.
Students will receive
- Transportation to and from UMMA for two training sessions and the event on Oct 5, 2024
- Food provided during trainings and event
- Training on engaging groups in conversations about a piece of art
- The opportunity to learn more about HBCUs
- $25 gift card as a thank you
- Letter for service hours and/or letter of recommendation
- Professional photo for portfolio (if desired)
